How HipScaler Works
HipScaler Radiographer Instructions
- Position patient supine as you would normally for an AP pelvic x-ray.
- Place the "HipScaler" flat against the outer edge of the patient's proximal thigh with the longer edge of the device vertical.
- Rotate and/or Flip the "HipScaler" so that the most proximal metal disc is at or as near as possible to the level of the greater trochanter (Fig 1).
- Then remove the "HipScaler", keeping it in exactly the same orientation, and place it vertically in between the patient's legs as proximal as possible (Fig 2).
- Take the x-ray as normal
- The most proximal metal disc should be clearly visible in profile on the x-ray, as a white line/ellipse just inferior to the pubic symphysis (Fig 3).
